A second group of Ozarks Electric crews departed early this morning for Mississippi to continue assisting Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association with rebuilding efforts following Winter Storm Fern.

The deployment comes as Ozarks Electric’s first mutual aid team returns home after spending the past ten days supporting restoration efforts in the storm-impacted area. During that time, crews worked long hours in challenging conditions to help restore power to the vast majority of Tallahatchie members who were left without service after heavy ice and damaging winds swept through the region.

At the height of the outages, tens of thousands of members were without electricity. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of local crews and mutual aid teams, that number has now been reduced to roughly 1,000 remaining members.

While significant progress has been made, restoration work is still ongoing. To ensure restoration efforts continue without interruption, a second team of linemen has stepped in to help finish the job.

Mutual aid is a longstanding commitment among electric cooperatives. When major storms strike, cooperatives across the country work together to restore service as safely and efficiently as possible. By sending additional personnel, Ozarks Electric continues to support that cooperative network and the communities it serves.

Ozarks Electric is proud of the dedication shown by every employee who has answered the call to assist in Mississippi and remains committed to helping Tallahatchie restore power to the remaining members affected by Winter Storm Fern.
