UAV Inspections

Efficiency Takes Flight

UAVs, commonly known as drones, allow us to safely and efficiently inspect lines and other equipment.

What To Know

UAV line inspections occur throughout the year. All UAV flights are performed by FAA-licensed operators in accordance with FAA rules and regulations. These flights are for the sole purpose of inspecting our lines and equipment to maintain reliable power. If you have doubts about any drone flight you may see on your property, please call us at 1-800-521-6144 to confirm any work being done.

Types of Inspections

Distribution Integrity

We inspect the lines, transformers, poles and other equipment in the distribution system, which brings electricity from substations to homes and businesses.

Transmission Integrity

We inspect the components of the transmission system, which brings high-voltage power from generation facilities to our substations.

Substations

UAVs help monitor substations, which convert high-voltage power from transmission lines to lower-voltage power for distribution. Thermal imaging can quickly identify potential problems.

Vegetation

UAVs efficiently detect overgrown vegetation around electrical infrastructure for targeted maintenance trimming.
