Competition was fierce, but camaraderie stole the show at Ozarks Electric Cooperative's annual Lineman's Rodeo and Family Day, held Friday, July 10.
The event gave linemen and right-of-way workers an opportunity to showcase the skills they use every day in a series of friendly competitions while bringing together employees, their families and friends for an afternoon of fun and fellowship.
The day began with the rodeo competitions, where competitors tested their speed, precision and teamwork in a variety of events. Participants raced to climb utility poles, demonstrated their chainsaw skills by cutting wooden discs in the fastest time, and took part in a rescue relay that challenged teams to safely lower a rescue dummy from the top of a pole. One of the day's most unique events, "Closest to the Pin," had competitors climb to a platform high on a utility pole before taking a golf shot at a target painted on the ground below.
While the rodeo highlighted the expertise and professionalism of Ozarks Electric's crews, the afternoon was dedicated to celebrating the cooperative family.
Employees and their families enjoyed a variety of activities throughout the afternoon, including bounce houses, pony rides, a petting zoo, door prizes, games and a catered dinner. The family-friendly atmosphere allowed coworkers to relax, spend time together outside of work and celebrate the people who make the cooperative successful.
Events like the Lineman's Rodeo reflect the cooperative spirit that defines Ozarks Electric. While the competitions recognize the skill, training and dedication required of linemen, they also serve as a reminder that behind every crew is a network of coworkers, families and supporters who make their work possible.
At the end of the day, trophies and prizes were awarded. Still, the greatest reward was the opportunity to come together as one cooperative family, celebrating the teamwork, service and friendships that power Ozarks Electric every day.
