Ozarks Electric Cooperative recently brought a glimpse of the future of transportation to the Indian Capital Technology Center campus in Stilwell, where sophomores from high schools across the region gathered for hands-on career exploration during tours of the center's auto repair facility.
As part of the event, Ozarks Electric showcased three electric vehicles from its fleet: a Tesla, a Rivian, and a Ford Lightning. Students got a close-up look at how the automotive and electric industries are evolving together. The vehicles served as a real-world learning tool, sparking conversations about modern vehicle technology, electrical systems, and the changing skill sets required in today’s auto repair and maintenance careers.
Students touring the center were able to interact directly with instructors, explore training equipment, and see how emerging vehicle technologies fit into the broader automotive landscape. Ozarks Electric staff were present to answer questions about electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and how electricity powers transportation in new and innovative ways.
Events like these highlight the growing connection between technical education and the energy industry. As electric vehicles become more common on roads across Oklahoma and Arkansas, tomorrow’s technicians will need hands-on experience with both mechanical and electrical systems.
Indian Capital Technology Center serves students, adults, and businesses by providing world-class training designed to prepare individuals for success in the workplace. Its mission to develop skilled, job-ready leaders aligns closely with Ozarks Electric’s commitment to community education and workforce development. Together, the two organizations are helping students see how technical trades continue to adapt alongside advancing technology.
For many students, the event offered more than just a tour; it provided insight into potential career paths and the role innovation plays in shaping the future of transportation and energy. Whether students pursue careers in auto repair, electrical work, or related technical fields, experiences like this help them better understand the opportunities ahead.
