Ozarks Electric Cooperative To Soon Begin Construction of Innovative Solar Power Generation Facility in Springdale

Fayetteville, Ark. – Ozarks Electric Cooperative will soon begin construction of a one-‐megawatt solar generation facility in Springdale, Ark., the company announced.

It will be the first utility-‐scale, member-‐owned solar power generation facility in Arkansas. When completed, it will contain approximately 4,080 panels across five acres of land in east Springdale.

The electric cooperative hopes to begin construction by early September of this year and to have the facility fully operational by March 2016.

“We are thrilled to be able to be the first in the state to build and maintain a facility such as this,” said Mitchell Johnson, president/CEO of Ozarks Electric. “We strongly believe that this groundbreaking facility will create a positive impact, both environmentally and financially, for our members and our community.

“This facility comes as yet another example of our commitment to our purpose – helping improve the lives of our members,” Johnson said. “We know that our members are interested in renewable energy and we want to be able to offer solutions and programs to meet their needs.

“I am really excited about the possibilities this innovative facility provides,” Johnson said.

Information regarding use of the facility has yet to be announced. Ozarks Electric will release details regarding any future programs or offerings at a later date.

Ozarks Electric, incorporated in 1938, is a member-owned electric cooperative, serving more than 70,000 meters across nine counties in Northwest Arkansas and Northeast Oklahoma. For more information about Ozarks Electric, visit the cooperative’s website at www.ozarksecc.com.
