Ozarks Electric Cooperative Urges Members To Help Keep Electric Rates Low

Fayetteville, Ark. – Ozarks Electric Cooperative is asking for their members’ help.

Out-of-state cable and phone companies are attempting to pass $6 million of their annual costs to electric cooperative members in Arkansas. If Arkansas House of Representatives’ Bill 1798 is passed, members’ electric rates will go up, service reliability will go down and their safety could be at risk.

The House Insurance and Commerce Committee will vote on the bill tomorrow, March 18, and members are urged to help stop this bill from passing.

“We are asking members to please contact the committee and their state representatives immediately to voice their concerns about this bill,” said President/CEO Mitchell Johnson. “We think this bill is severely unfair and costly to our members.”

Members can find more information about the bill at www.ozarksecc.com/HB1798.

Ozarks Electric, incorporated in 1938, is a member-owned electric cooperative, serving more than 70,000 meters across nine counties in Northwest Arkansas and Northeast Oklahoma. For more information about Ozarks Electric, visit the cooperative’s website at www.ozarksecc.com.
